18K Gold, Silver Toi et Moi Ring with Diamond and Cobalt Glass, 1st half of the 20th century

This ring is an elegant example of early 20th century jewelry, in the "Toi et Moi" style, or "You and Me" - a composition symbolizing duality, balance and an unbreakable bond between two people. It was made of high-grade gold (18K), with silver setting elements, in accordance with the tradition of the era, when diamonds were set in light metal to bring out their brilliance. Diamond: a colorless stone in an old European cut, with a characteristic, closed proportion and a smaller surface. This type of cut was common before the popularization of the modern diamond and was valued for its subtle, warm sparkle reminiscent of candlelight.

Cobalt glass: dark blue, faceted cabochon in a round cut - has a decorative function, while contrasting in color with the diamond. Such glasses - used as imitations of sapphires - were a popular jewelry material in jewelry at the turn of the century.
