This elegant signet ring was created in the 1930s, during the heyday of the Art Deco style, which in jewellery revealed a love for geometry, contrast and precision of form. Made of 0.585 gold, it is an expression of the classic, modernist masculinity of the era.
A black onyx in the form of a bevelled plate, with a characteristic rectangular shape with slightly cut corners, is set in the centre of the ring. The stone is decorated with an intaglio - an engraving presenting the profile of a figure (probably a male), made using the concave engraving technique. Such representations were popular both as heraldic motifs and portraits, referring to classical antique patterns.
The wide band of the signet ring is decorated with a geometric engraving – a rhythmic pattern of rhombuses inscribed in a rectangular frame, typical of the decade of the 1930s. The ring smoothly passes into the setting of the stone, creating a compact, solid form with balanced proportions.
A signet ring of this type served not only a decorative function, but also a symbolic one – as a personal symbol of the owner, an expression of identity, status or memory. Today, it is a rare example of Art Deco jewellery with a classic character, valued both as a collector's item and an original everyday decoration.
