14K Gold, Silver, Rose Cut Diamond Earrings, 1st half of the 20th century

The presented pair of earrings is a refined example of turn-of-the-century jewelry – made using a technique characteristic of the end of the Victorian era and the beginning of the Belle Époque, it combines two precious metals: 0.585 gold and silver, traditionally used in diamond settings due to its light color and neutrality to the play of light of the stones.

The central place in each of the earrings is occupied by a rosette-cut diamond – one of the oldest and most subtle techniques for processing this stone. These stones do not shine sharply like modern brilliants, but scatter light in a more subdued, soft way, reminiscent of candlelight. This effect is further enhanced by the closed, silver setting, which creates a subtle contrast to the gold elements of the composition.

Around the central stone runs a gold hoop decorated with intricate engraving – probably in the form of a microscopic floral or geometric ornament, typical of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
