This delicate brooch is a subtle piece of jewellery from the late 19th century, which harmoniously combines 18-karat gold, rose-cut diamonds and an exceptional, irregular baroque pearl. Maintained in the spirit of late Victorian, it captivates with a composition in which the utilitarian function gives way to the poetics of form.

The focal point of the brooch is a cream baroque pearl with a delicate shine and asymmetrical shape. Pearls of this type – far from being perfectly spherical – are distinguished by their uniqueness and rich surface texture, which was particularly valued in sentimental and artistic jewellery of the second half of the 19th century. Their organic form symbolised authenticity, spirituality and natural beauty.

The rose-cut diamonds surrounding the pearl are set in a darker, silver-plated or oxidised setting, which emphasises the depth of their delicate shine. The rosette cut – consisting of a flat base and radiant facets on top – reflects light subtly, creating a soft flickering effect, as if lit by a candle flame.

The brooch has an elongated form, made of two parallel, slender bars of gold, finished with a decorative element on one side and a functional clasp on the other. This composition resembles brooches for ties or scarves, but could also be worn as an adornment for evening or daytime attire.

The whole thing bears the marks of being handmade – minor irregularities and elaborate details reveal the presence of a goldsmith, not a machine. The style of the brooch fits into the sentimental and floral jewellery trend, popular at the end of the 19th century, when ornamentation was strongly symbolic and personal.

It is not just a brooch – it is a piece of history, preserved in the form of jewellery. A testimony to an era in which jewellery carried a deeper meaning than decorative. A great addition to your antique collection or as a unique gift – unique in both material and mood.
