19th-century silver necklace with diamond rosettes
Description
In the second half of the 19th century, jewelry became increasingly intricate – a time when jewelers eagerly experimented with lightness of form while maintaining mastery in stone setting. This necklace, made of silver with a gilded back, combines both these elements.
The central motif is based on harmonious triangular and spindle-shaped links, in which rose-cut diamonds are set – a cut characteristic of the era, allowing the stones to shimmer with a subtle, flickering glow even by candlelight. The lower, larger rose-cut diamond is set in a delicate, round bezel, giving the composition a rhythm crowned with an accent of a clear focal point of light.
The total weight of the diamonds is approximately 2 ct, but their arrangement and setting ensure that the brilliance is evenly distributed along the entire length of the necklace. This is an example of jewelry craftsmanship from a time when jewelry was meant to be not only an adornment but also a sophisticated symbol of status – elegant, yet discreet.
