Imperial Russia, 19th-century gold bracelet with malachites, oriental style
Description
Gold with a warm, deep hue and the vibrant green of malachite—a combination that, in Russian jewelry of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, was synonymous with dignity and spiritual richness. This impressive bracelet, crafted by goldsmiths of the Russian Empire during the Au 56 hallmarks, harks back to Byzantine traditions, so integral to Russian artistic culture of that era.
Intricately decorated filigree elements, miniature granulations, and the architectural setting of the central stone evoke the goldwork of ancient icons and reliquaries. Three malachites—two spherical and one square cabochon—form a harmonious composition where ornamentation gives way to the rhythm of color and form.
This is an example of jewelry where the spirit of the East meets the precision of Russian craftsmanship, and the echo of Byzantine splendor finds new expression in gold and a stone as deep in color as a prayer.
