Gold bracelet with emeralds and pearls, turn of the 19th and 20th century.
Description
A rigid bracelet made of Au 0.375 gold (spectrometric analysis indicates a composition in the range of approx. 0.417–0.450), with a decorative floral motif set in the central part of the composition. The hallmarks are currently illegible, however, the form and craftsmanship suggest that this jewelry dates back to the late 19th or early 20th century, most likely the Late Victorian or Early Edwardian period (approx. 1890–1915).
The decorative element forms a composition resembling a four-leaf clover, constructed from three green stones – emeralds – and small pearls (17 in total), which accentuate the contour of the ornament. The clover motif was a symbol of luck and prosperity in jewelry of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, often used in small jewelry forms. The arrangement of stones and small pearls creates a botanical decoration, fitting into the aesthetic of an era fascinated by natural forms.
A characteristic element of the design is also the knot encircling the bracelet's band. This motif appeared in 19th-century jewelry as a symbol of permanence and connection, while also serving a purely decorative function, introducing dynamism to the simple form of the band.
The bracelet has a rigid, opening construction, with a hinge and a clasp secured by a safety chain. The chain is made of higher-purity gold (approx. Au 0.718), indicating that it was most likely added later as a safety element.
