Gold Rosicrucian pendant, 19th century

A gold cross pendant with a rose and snake motif, made in the second half of the 19th century. The main element is made of gold with an assay of approx. 0.624, while the loop is made of gold Au 0.585.

The central part of the composition is a rose surrounded by leaves, set on the arms of the cross. Above it is a snake entwining the cross, a motif often appearing in 19th-century esoteric symbolism. The combination of these elements refers to the Rosicrucian tradition (Rose Cross) – a mystical symbol combining the idea of spiritual rebirth, knowledge, and transformation.

Jewelry with such symbolism appeared in circles associated with the hermetic movement and in Masonic circles, especially in Great Britain during the Victorian era. In jewelry, this motif often took a simplified form of a cross with a rose in the center, complemented by floral decoration.

The pendant has preserved the composition characteristic of the era, with multicolored gold and small, hand-modeled floral details.
