Gold pendant with green glass, 1st half of the 20th century
Description
In vintage jewelry, sometimes the most interesting items are those that don't pretend to be anything more than they are, yet attract the eye as effectively as the rarest stones. In this pendant, the main role is played by intensely green glass, cut into a shape resembling a rectangular step cut. Its color brings to mind stained-glass, through which light passes not so much brightly as deeply, lingering for a moment in its material structure.
The pendant was most likely created at the beginning of the 20th century, in the transitional period between Art Nouveau and the Edwardian style, combining a slender form, delicate silver setting, and the intense green color characteristic of Belle Époque jewelry.
The setting was made of 15-carat gold, modeled using the ancient technique of wax carving. Thanks to this, every detail—small convexities, precisely marked edges, openwork透holes above the stone—bears the trace of the hand that worked slowly, layer by layer. The gold creates an ornament with a delicate volume, as if taken from miniature architectural motifs.
