Description

At the end of the 19th century, in an era when conversations about aesthetics and morality filled English drawing rooms, and the streets of London echoed with the clatter of horse hooves and the rustle of jacquard dress trains, jewelry was created that today is a rarity even among collectors.

The presented ring is made of 15-karat gold (0.614 purity), a standard almost exclusively used in Great Britain in the 19th century. Considering both the gold purity and the aesthetics of its craftsmanship, it can be assumed with high probability that the ring was made in England, most likely between 1885 and 1901, during the so-called Aesthetic Period, a late phase of the Victorian era.

Three diamonds in old cuts, brilliant and Old Mine Cut, arranged vertically, evoke associations with the passage of time. Perhaps they were meant to tell a story of the past, present, and future of the woman who wore it. The accompanying tiny stones in decorative grooves add lightness and finesse to the composition.

The setting's construction also draws attention: a combination of silver (to enhance the brilliance of the stones) with a durable gold body. Such a combination was both a practical and aesthetic solution; diamonds in a cool setting appear brighter, more luminous.

This is not just a ring; it is a piece of history enclosed in a form of utilitarian art, a testament to the mastery of the goldsmiths of the era, who did not use microscopes or lasers, but only a magnifying glass, daylight, and an extraordinary sense of composition.
