Gold brooch-pendant with half-pearls and old-cut diamonds, Paris, 19th century
Description
This magnificent Parisian ornament from the second half of the 19th century combines the function of a brooch and a pendant, which was typical for multifunctional jewelry of the era. Crafted from 750 gold, it is richly adorned with half-pearls and old-cut diamonds, whose soft, shimmering reflections create an atmosphere of romantic luminosity.
The decorative form refers to the eclecticism of the era, in which Renaissance and Baroque inspirations intertwined with Rococo lightness and the nascent aesthetics of the Belle Époque. Filigree ornaments, openwork motifs, and the ornamental elaboration of the composition make the brooch-pendant look like a jewel created for grand occasions.
Such works were a sign of status and refined taste, and at the same time a masterful display of the jeweler's artistry of 19th-century Parisian workshops.
