Gold enamel locket with a diamond, 1st half of the 20th century

This is a pendant that, more than any other type of jewelry, reveals the intimacy of intentions – it not only adorns but also conceals. Its classic, oval form becomes a miniature reliquary of emotions: love, grief, memory.

The central point of the pendant is a diamond with an estimated weight of approx. 0.25 ct, set in a "butter setting" characteristic of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, a setting resembling spread-open butter petals that gently embrace the stone, allowing it to shine in its full spectrum of light. It is surrounded by a delicate, gold wreath with a subtly serrated edge, which evokes classic Victorian lockets.

This stone, though small, commands all attention; its natural brilliance contrasts with the black enamel background that covers the entire surface of both the obverse and reverse. The enamel shows visible signs of wear and minor damage, which only enhances its authenticity and places the pendant within the narrative of an item used and cherished for decades.

The combination of 585 gold with the deep black of the enamel creates a composition that is both austere and refined. The diamond, though small, plays a symbolic role here, like a light in the darkness, like a memory among shadows. This pendant could have been a mourning piece, but also an act of remembrance of a great love or a promise.
