Art Deco Gold and Diamond Necklace, 1920s

It's the second half of the 1920s. The city comes alive at night, cafe lights reflect in the wet cobblestones, jazz spills from open doors, and jewelry ceases to be merely an adornment, becoming a manifesto of modernity. It was in such a world that this necklace was created, a handcrafted example of the mature Art Deco aesthetic, an era that loved precision, rhythm, and light tamed in geometry.

The entire piece, including the chain, was handcrafted from gold, without hallmarks – like many pieces of jewelry from almost a hundred years ago, created in workshops where the master's signature was quality, not a assay mark. The short form of the necklace ensures it lays softly on the collarbones, precisely where, in the 1920s, jewelry was meant to emphasize the line of a dress and the body's movement, not to dominate the silhouette.

The vertical composition of the pendant draws the eye to the central point, a 1.62 ct brilliant-cut diamond, preserved in an old cut. Its brilliance is deeper, more velvety than in modern stones, full of internal reflections that change with every movement. The surrounding smaller diamonds also retain their old cuts, creating a rhythmic, almost architectural axis.

The settings are adorned with hand-engraved millegrain – a fine, beaded finish on the edges, which was a hallmark of the era's highest class of jewelry. This detail required time, a steady hand, and experience, rarely seen today, but in the 1920s, it was a quiet testament to mastery.
