Daisy's Gold Ring with Sapphire and Diamonds, Vintage
Description
In old goldsmith workshops, the Daisy motif was associated with elegance that didn't require complicated gestures. A single stone, intensely blue, as deep as the evening sky after rain, was enough to create the center of the composition, around which an elaborate crown of diamonds was built. This is how rings were created, endowed not only with harmony but also with a kind of soft light.
The central sapphire, set in 750 gold, is surrounded by a border of old-cut diamonds, set in a silver bezel, a technique characteristic of jewelry from decades ago. The combination of two metals was not due to whim but to practice: silver could bring out the brilliance of diamonds more fully than gold, and craftsmen gladly took advantage of this phenomenon.
This is a subtle composition in the aesthetic of a classic cluster ring, popular since the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The ring has retained everything that is most important in this form: balance, purity of lines, and stones that, despite the passage of time, carry their original, undiminished brilliance.
