Diamond Tank ring, 0.45 ct, 1930s/40s
Description
This massive Tank ring was created in the 1930s and 1940s, a time when jewelry aesthetics drew inspiration from the industrial power, mechanics, and architecture of modern cities. Inspirations from tank armor, riveted bridge structures, and the geometric rhythm of machines were directly translated into its form. The wide, heavy band and the bold, almost architectural head create a composition with a distinctly utilitarian yet luxurious character.
The central stone is set in a square bezel with a distinct millegrain, typical of the transition between Art Deco and early modernism. The white setting contrasts with the warm hue of the yellow gold, optically emphasizing the brilliant-cut diamond and adding depth to the entire piece. The sides of the ring are adorned with massive, sculptural elements whose rhythm resembles caterpillar tracks, a characteristic motif of Tank jewelry.
This jewelry was created in an era of uncertainty and reconstruction, designed with durability, strength, and distinctiveness in mind. Rings of this type were often chosen as symbols of stability, worn by individuals who wanted to assert their position and independence. The preserved form, proportions, and original character make this piece an authentic witness of its time, and at the same time, a collectible object with a clear historical identity.
