Gold ring with diamond, USSR Kyiv 1971
Description
This ring was created in the 1970s in Kyiv, one of the significant artistic centers of the then Soviet Union. The design's form reflects the aesthetics of late modernism, where simplicity and functionality combined with the discreet elegance characteristic of the Eastern European jewelry school.
The centrally set diamond, weighing 0.27 ct, with SI1 clarity and G color, stands out with good brilliance and light. The butter setting, inspired by the shape of gently opened petals, enhances the stone's optical sparkle and makes the diamond appear to float above the shank. The warm gold band, tapering towards the center, further directs attention to the central point of the composition.
Jewelry from this period was a response to the realities of the era, focusing on solid craftsmanship, restrained form, and thoughtful detail. This ring remains an example of moderate luxury, where technical precision and regional history create a cohesive, timeless whole.
