Gold signet ring with cobalt glass, 1940s-1950s
Description
This signet ring was created in the reality of post-war reconstruction and is a distinctive example of men's jewelry from the 1940s and 1950s. Made of 0.585 gold, characteristic of Central and Eastern Europe during this period, it reflects the aesthetics of a time when simplicity of form combined with the need for durability and distinctiveness.
The central element is cobalt glass with a deep, velvety color, imitating a sapphire. The octagonal cut gives it an architectural character, and the open side setting exposes the longer edges of the stone, leaving the cut corners uncovered. This allows light to freely penetrate the glass, emphasizing its intense color and geometric discipline.
The sides of the shank are adorned with precise engravings inspired by architectural and floral motifs. After World War II, signet rings of this type symbolized independence and a restored social position, combining available materials with artisanal finesse. Today, they remain a testament to solid goldsmithing and timeless, masculine style.
